Riding a bike across America has been on my list of "somedays" for a long time.  The summer of 2000 seemed like the time to make it happen.  Like most of you, I have lost a number of friends and relatives to lung cancer, cystic fibrosis, and related diseases.  Combining my dream of riding across the country with the chance to help others seemed like the right thing to do.

FACTS ABOUT THE RIDE:

   The ride starts in Seattle, Washington on 19 June and ends in Washington, DC on 5 August.  The trip is 3,250 miles.  We ride for 41 days, with 8 rest days sprinkled throughout the ride.  The average day's ride is 81 miles--the longest day's ride is 113 miles.  The ride route passes through 12 states and the District of Columbia.   We camp out along the route.  Food and support is provided by many generous volunteers.  See the ride route and ride information pages for more information.

SPONSORS NEEDED:

   The Big Ride is a pledge ride for the benefit of the American Lung Association.  To participate, I had to pledge to raise a minimum of $7,000. 

   To achieve this goal, I need your help.  All of the funds raised go to the American Lung Association and 90% of your contributions go to your local chapter. All of your contributions are 100% tax deductible.  I pay ALL of my own expenses for the ride, including air travel.
